Naga Shaurya’s last movie Ammammagarillu was a flop. Now, Nartanasala carried positive buzz since it is his second home production for the young hero after the commercial success of Chalo. Let’s see whether the film is healthy entertaining as whatever they promised through promotional content and how far the gay comedy is agreeable?
Radha Krishna (Naga Shaurya) is raised as a girl since his father Kalamandir Kalyan (Shivaji Raja) was desperate for a girl child. This results Radha in developing no romantic feelings for girls. Satya (Yamini Bhaskar) is confused as his son’s love interest and Kalyan fixes their marriage but Radha Krishna who is already in love with Manasa (Kashmira) lies that he is a gay to escape from Satya’s family head (Jaya Prakash Reddy). This lie costs him big time because JP’s son (Ajay) is again a gay.
Debutant writer, director Srinivas Chakravarthi seems to have clearly confused with gay comedy extended beyond the limit in the name of ‘Pothram.’ While the story itself dates back to ages, his screenplay is still more unpleasant. Nowhere, he left audience to connect with characters as each and every scene appeared ridiculously absurd. Penning dialogues with a rhyme can never serve purpose when core material in a line is bypassed. Except a couple of punches mouthed by Jaya Prakash Reddy in second half, Nartanasala went haywire in wiring part too. Srinivas Chakravarthi’s directorial immaturity in handling a hero who is fresh from a hit is visible throughout. Illogical episodes and clueless extensions made whole narrative tediously disgusting. Music by Sagar Mahathi is good in couple of songs and well shot in picturesque foreign locales. Vijay C Kumar’s camera work is of B grade standards with awful color combinations. Thammi Raju and Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao’s editing is par below standard. Production standards from Ira Creations are praiseworthy.
Onto performances, Naga Shourya though looked handsome his costume selection is off putting just like his story selection. He played dangerously on gay comedy which failed to work on full length. Shourya&rs.
